Feeding high amounts of almond hulls to lactating cows

چکیده

California is the leading state for production of almonds, with more than 400,000 bearing hectares orchards that produced approximately 1 billion kilograms shelled nuts in 2017. Almond hulls (AH) are a regional by-product feedstuff fed predominantly to dairy cattle California. A 2012 study surveyed 40 farms and found 39 out 104 total mixed rations contained AH, mean daily feeding rate 1.45 kg/cow. In 2017, 2 AH was produced. At kg/cow daily, even if all 1.7 million lactating cows consuming there will be surplus on market as 130,000 nonbearing come into nut production. Therefore, potential varying amounts investigated using 12 Holstein 4 primiparous 8 multiparous cows. The dietary treatments were containing 0, 7, 13, or 20% AH. used 12.8% crude fiber (as-is basis), which below 15% legal limit set by feed regulations. Diets formulated so inclusion increased, amount steam-flaked corn soyhull pellets decreased soybean meal increased. Experimental design replicated × Latin square. Diet had cubic effect actual milk yield, energy-corrected dry matter intake, 7% diet having highest values 13% lowest. percent yield solids yields lactose fat did not differ diet, but protein declined linearly increased inclusion, linearly. Apparent total-tract digestibilities organic higher diet. Total percentage day spent ruminating Overall, this work demonstrated can at amounts, up support high levels increasing (up 20%) could lead improved digestibility

Fat-Feeding Practices for Lactating Dairy Cows

Supplementing cows with fat can have several beneficial effects. It usually increases the energy density of the diet as starch or fiber is replaced with fatty acids. If milk production is increased, then feed efficiency may be improved. Less heat may be produced in the rumen during digestion of fat-supplemented diets as fatty acids are not digested in the rumen. Less heat produced during digest...

Feeding Lactating Dairy Cows Proteins Resistant to Ruminal Degradation I

Sixty multiprious Holstein cows were fed treatment diets from 11 to 40 d postpartum with corn silage as the forage. Treatment diets each contained a different supplemental protein: 1) solvent soybean meal; 2) extruded soy product; 3) combination of corn gluten meal and distillers dried grains with solubles; and 4) a combination of protein sources from diets 2 and 3. Covariate adjusted means for...

Effect of Feeding Quickly Degradable Nitrogen on the Development of Ovarian Follicles in Lactating Dairy Cows

The objective of this study was to examine the effect of an excess intake of quickly degradable nitrogen (QDN) on ovarian follicle development. Twenty lactating dairy cows were fed mixed silage and concentrates twice daily. The control diet was a typical ration for high producing dairy cows in the United Kingdom (crude protein (CP)=17.5%; metabolizable energy (ME)=11.8 MJ/kg DM). The cows were ...

the effects of high non fibrous carbohydrates diet on milk production, inflammation and molecular mechanism of innate immunity in lactating dairy cows

effects of feeding frequency and adding plant oil to diet on performance and feeding behavior of lactating holstein dairy cows

this experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of feeding frequency and oil supplementation to the diet on performance and feeding behavior of lactating dairy cows. twenty four lactating holstein cows, 12 primiparous, (bw= 626±58 kg and dim= 195±44 day) and 12 multiparous, (bw= 617±25 kg and dim= 207±39 day) were randomly assigned to four diets contained 2.5 percent supplemental oil or...
